SMOKIES BASEBALL NETWORK
Mick Gillispie will once again anchor this year Smokies radio broadcast, bringing all 140 games to the East Tennessee airwaves. Live broadcast coverage starts 15-minutes prior to the scheduled first pitch with the Pilot Pre-game Show, an in-depth look at the match up between the Smokies and their opponent. Darren Headrick joins the Broadcast Team this year and will host the Pilot Pre-game Show. Darren worked in the Smokies press box for the last two years helping with scoreboard operations. The Pilot Pre-game Show features interviews with your favorite players, managers, coaches and guests with weekly in-depth packages, as well as a look at the starting line-ups. Smokies fans will get an opportunity to follow the games with Gillispie and Headrick. Gillispie begins this season as director of broadcasting for the Smokies, his second with the team. Prior to joining Tennessee he spent 2005 & 2006 on the Chattanooga Lookouts broadcast team. In 2004 Gillispie called games for the Salem Avalanche (Class A Carolina League) and began his career doing play-by-play for the Wilson Tobs (Coastal Plains League) in 2003. Mick began his career in radio at the University of Alabama working on both WUAL 91.5 (Alabama Public Radio) as a reporter on the nightly "All Things Considered," news as well as WVUA 90.7 FM broadcasting Crimson Tide baseball and hosting a football pre-game show. This past baseball off season he joined the Crimson Tide Sports Network becoming their broadcaster for Alabama Woman's Basketball. Gillispie, as a student at Alabama became friends with now former Smokies relief pitcher Jarrod Kingray (2000, 2001 and 2004). Kingray is second all-time in Smokies History with 27 saves recorded back in 2001 and was also a groomsman in Mick's wedding party. Headrick is originally from Maryville, Tenn. He began his broadcasting career as an intern for the Vol Radio Network. He produced a weekly Internet segment while working as a reporter. Headrick also contributed behind the scenes during football season serving as the network's telephonic systems comptroller. Since graduating from the University of Tennessee, Darren has provided the play-by-play as the voice of Morristown Hamblen-West High School athletics on WMTN radio. "The Sports Animal" WNML 99.1 FM, WNML 990 AM in Knoxville and WNRX 99.3 in Jefferson City will serve as the Smokies' flagship frequencies. 2008 marks the sixth straight season that the Smokies' games will be aired by Citadel Broadcasting of Knoxville. In addition, every Smokies broadcast will be streamed live online at www.smokiesbaseball.com, powered by Comcast.
